It comes with a sense of amazement, when one views the US political scene from outside the confines of party politics, that the US public has stood for so long in it's support for this administration. Yes, Fear, has to a large extent,
kept the electorate to ' staying the course '. However, what creates such an apathetic response to the unprecedented levels of corruption forged from that amalgam of corporate America and the body politic? The ties to the war in Iraq and the reconstruction efforts, the defence contracts and the out-sourcing of jobs and manufacturing point to a government controlled and manipulated by and for the industrial elite. Has it really taken six years for the public to face this reality? That they have a government in default. It would seem that the founding fathers were not all seeing or wise. Had they a crystal ball to look to the present, perhaps they would have shown less concern for the separation of church and state and more for the separation of commerce and government, which has become the worst threat to democracy since the founding of America. If the political pundits are correct and the Democrats retake congress let us hope that Sen. Pelosi's statement, that she will work to sever the ties of corporate America and government, are carried through. She will have performed one of the most valuable services to her country, although I do not think most Americans will even be aware of it.
Yes, fear can make people stick with the known, but perhaps more importantly it takes the public 'eye' off the ball, allowing the very institutions and instruments of government to be high jacked. Six years is a long time, one can hope that fear like pain has been managed and the electorate can forge a new metal of moral rectitude and governance in the USA.

While I may not be a genious, never claimed that, why don'tyou take the MENSA test. Then we'll talk brains for brains. of course personal experience, something I would imagine you have only a rudimentary understanding of, counts for much. You are quite welcome to bring in your personal anecdotal experience to substanciate your view points. This is an open forum of debate,so of course, your views are welcome and subject to scrutiny.

Debate? Hmmm! well you will need some content and to back up your argument. debate implies an imput of information, you are ALWAYS welcome
to add your thoughts and views as long as you back them up and expect people to dissagree with you. There are many people here whom I argue with who have a better knowledge than I on a subject, I have a viewpoint but I am at a dissadvantage in the debate through a lack of knowledge or experience.
There are no magic answers for any of us, but open debate uncovers the possibilities for all of us to learn something new.
debates can sometimes be hard, no offense taken!

security above liberty will soon have and deserve neither.
To me, a national strategy that makes sense is to mobilise our people as a huge reserve to aid in emergencies and disasters. Encourage people to join the Police and Fire auxiliaries where they live. Save part of their income and build up reserves for personal use when bbad things can happeen. Give people confidence in our ability to handle anything that comes along.
Dept. Homeland Security still feels to me like paternalism. "Shepherding the good sheep along, sir". I believe we are a nation of wolves, or at least potential sheepdogs and need less herding than leadership. Then we could deploy far more wolf hunters to hunt the bad guys.
